Photography - “I am human”: a contest to tell what makes us human - Free time - Varese News
What makes us truly human? This is the question at the heart of the photography contest “Io sono umana” , promoted on Instagram on the occasion of the 32nd edition of the “Rassegna fotografico di Immagini e Colori”, an event that for years has celebrated the passion for photography and the art of capturing moments of life organized by the photo club “La Focale di Buguggiate” , scheduled for 13 and 14 September 2025 at Materia Spazio Libero.
" Humans is the theme of this exhibition ," explains Monica Rossi, President of La Focale, " where in the collective exhibition each member of the photo club has explored, according to their own sensitivity and personal vision, the theme of the human being — or, more profoundly, of humanity: faces, gestures, solitudes, embraces, glances, contradictions. These images tell individual and collective stories, intimate or universal, that place man in his complexity at the center. " The contest, starting on July 1st, invites everyone — photography enthusiasts, amateurs and the curious — to participate with a simple gesture: post a photo that interprets the theme of humanity on your Instagram page, using the hashtag #iosonoumano2025 and tagging @materiaspaziolibero .
No stories will be allowed: only posts in the feed, visible and public . Photos can be uploaded until August 31, 2025. The photographs will be shared by Materia in the stories and collected in a highlighted section on the Instagram profile, to give visibility to all participants.
A jury composed of members of the photo club, members of the Materia and VareseNews staff will select the 100 most significant photographs , which will be printed in 10×15 format and exhibited during the Humans exhibition alongside the works of the photographers of La Focale. Members of La Focale cannot participate. The first three classified will receive a special mention and will see their photographs printed in 30×40 format. The official award ceremony is scheduled for Sunday 14 September at 5 pm at Materia , at the end of the exhibition, followed by a refreshment open to the public.
The contest is free and the costs for prints and prizes will be covered by the La Focale di Buguggiate photo club.
" During the event - continues Monica Rossi - we will also present a personal exhibition of the member Lorenzo Tonta, one of the founders of the association EWE MAMA, with his shots during one of his visits to the mission in Uganda, where he wants to show the people who animate the small village of Rwentobo while they dedicate themselves to their work. A welcome guest will be Livio Senigallesi, the greatest Italian photojournalist: 25 world conflicts, university professor, front pages of newspapers all over the world, writer of books, an endless curriculum ... after his experiences, his mission now is to talk about peace. " A creative and collective opportunity to question, through the lens, what it means - today - to be human.
